Beauty Box Video 3.0 Released! Provides Fast, Realistic Digital Makeup for Feature Films, Commercials, and Music Videos
Beauty Box Video 3.0 provides the means to give subjects an incredible makeover in post-production, using state-of-the-art face detection, masking, and smoothing algorithms that preserve important details and the natural skin texture. All this combines to create realistic digital makeup.
Digital Anarchy today announced Beauty Box Video 3.0, a significant update of their award-winning digital makeup skin retouching plug-in for Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Apple Final Cut Pro 7 & X. Version 3.0 introduces new masking algorithms that improves automatic masking, and greatly increases the quality of the automatic retouching. It also further refines OpenCL support and increases rendering speed on ATI and Nvidia graphics cards. There are now 35 preset Styles that video editors can choose from to make things even easier when getting the perfect look for a feature films, commercials, and music videos.

“We always need to make our artists look their best and Beauty Box from Digital Anarchy is the go-to software plug-in for this purpose.”, says Dave Pollard, Head of Video Production for Universal Music. “It’s an enhancer rather than a replacer and it brings out the natural flesh tones and removes unsightly lighting effects without looking air-brushed.”
Since 2009, Beauty Box Video has been a critical tool for dealing with skin and makeup problems that HD and 4K video reveal. Beauty Box Video 3.0 solves this problem by giving subjects an incredible makeover in post-production, using state-of-the-art face detection, masking, and smoothing algorithms that preserve important details and the natural skin texture. All this combines to create realistic digital makeup. The retouching is subtle and the resulting video looks natural creating a look that is indistinguishable from real makeup.

HD and 4K show so much detail that it’s essential video editors have tools to reduce the skin and makeup detail when necessary. Beauty Box Video is a proven way of dealing with these very common problems, winning numerous awards and rave reviews in the last three years. It automatically analyzes the footage for skin tones, creates the mask, and smoothes out the skin while retaining the texture. The video editor only needs to dial in the amount of smoothing on the first frame and then render it. It saves a tremendous amount of time when compared to how this is traditionally done.

“With this release we had two big goals, improving the retouching and add presets to allow a variety of styles and looks.” said Jim Tierney, President of Digital Anarchy. “The retouching is now faster and better than it’s ever been, creating a more accurate skin tone mask under varying lighting conditions. We’ve also added 40 different styles, so you can apply all sorts of great effects to your video.”

Here is a rundown of the great new features:

Better Masking: The skin tone mask algorithm has also been rewritten for a better automatic mask. It still uses face detection, but now incorporates other algorithms for a more precise mask.

Beauty Box Styles: Add style to your video, by applying any of the over 35 preset effects.

Faster Rendering: Further optimizations of OpenCL mean Beauty Box Video renders faster than ever on AMD or Nvidia GPUs.

Shine Removal: This has been improved, so you can better reduce the hot spots caused by bright lights on shiny skin. This feature dramatically reduces the effect of poor lighting conditions.
