Now available is Pix Firmware Aurora version 3.0. The big news is this enables 4:4:4 recording over 3G SDI onto the Pix 240i external recorder. Offering the ability to record ProRes 4444 at 12 bit 330 mbps, this provides tremendous levels of quality at a an unheard of price-point. The Pix 240i can be bought in the UK for £2500 ex-vat.
The PIX 240i records Quicktime files to SSD in either Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD video formats. Files recorded in these intra-frame codecs are ready-for-editing directly from the recorder. For color-critical applications recording to Apple ProRes 4444 provides uncompressed alpha-channel transparency for superb chroma keying and grading performance.
