Blackmagic Design have announced that Blackmagic Cinema Cameras EF were used to capture complex action sequences in the new film The Expendables 3. Second Unit DP Paul Hughen, ASC, placed the cameras directly in the action in order to get incredible shots, including exciting scenes of car races, intricate boat chases and large scale action sequences.

"The Blackmagic Cinema Camera gave us all we needed in terms of image quality and dynamic range, and its small size was also perfect and let us get all the shots that we needed throughout the film. The form factor really allowed us to shrink the entire rig and use smaller and lighter tools, but the image quality coming from it was the same as I would get from a big camera," said Aleksandar. "We got the film done faster and on budget with this camera."

There are some new features in the software for the Pocket Cinema Camera. You can now focus by pushing the focus button when using an active MFT lens. This makes it very easy to accurately focus. There will be an update for the 2.5K Blackmagic Cinema Camera soon that will also add these features, plus new de-bayer processing that will improve the cameras sharpness when shooting non RAW files.

Blackmagic Design have announced a second model of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera that features passive Micro Four Thirds lens (MFT) mount, so customers now have an even greater choice of lens options when shooting. The new Blackmagic Cinema Camera MFT model supports any Micro Four Thirds with manual iris and focus, and is also easily adapted to other lens mounts such as PL via third party adapters.
